KWOS is highlighting an outstanding local high school athlete each week, brought to you by MU Health Care Sports Medicine. This week we feature Helias Lady Crusaders guard Claire Morris.

In a MSHSAA Class 5, District 5 tournament title basketball game Friday, Claire scored 25 points to lead the Lady Crusaders to a 62-49 win over Jefferson City. The senior scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half as Helias erased an eight point halftime deficit. Morris scored and made a foul shot to start the fourth quarter as the Lady Crusaders went on a 10-0 run. She finished the game 7 of 11 from the field.

"Claire brings a lot of talent and skill to the game of basketball, but more importantly leadership and character. The qualities that she possesses will take her far in life beyond athletics and she has set an example of what it means to be a Helias Catholic Lady Crusader basketball player," said Lady Crusaders Head Basketball Coach Garrett Wiggans.

Claire Morris is averaging 10.6 points per game for Helias this season. She is also averaging 6.4 rebounds a game. The senior also has 47 steals and 95 assists this year.

Friday's district title win is the third straight for the Helias Lady Crusaders and its fourth in the past five years.

The Lady Crusaders head to the Class 5 State Quarterfinals on Friday where they will face Marshfield. It is the third straight year that these two teams have faced each other in the State Quarterfinals.
