KWOS is highlighting an outstanding local high school athlete each week, brought to you by MU Health Care Sports Medicine. This week we feature Helias High School wrestler Eli Homan. At the Missouri Duals last weekend at Helias, Homan went 6-0 in the 175 weight class, winning five of his matches by fall in the first period. Homan helped Helias win the Blue Division and the Crusaders finished second as a team in the event. “Eli is such a dynamic athlete. He brings such a silent confidence and leadership to the team. He’s not above any task and he’s just willing to step up and elevate the whole team around him. It’s so fun to watch him just grow and learn each and everyday and then continue to challenge those around him. He is arguably one of the best athletes I’ve ever had the blessings to ever work with,” said Helias Head Wrestling Coach Kyle Markway. Last year, Homan went 42-5 and finished third in the state in the Class 3 165 weight class. Homan is also a linebacker on the Helias Crusaders football team. This year, he led the team in tackles with 137 and was named the Central Missouri Activities Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
