Museum director and chief curator Timothy Riley says the bill also directs the National Park Service to conduct a study to consider future potential designations for the site. Curator Riley tells 939 the Eagle that he’s thrilled:

“That’s the highest honor that a historic site or place can receive in our nation and it recognizes the incredible history that happened here at Fulton at Westminster College,” Curator Riley says.

Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill spoke in 1946 at Fulton’s Westminster College, delivering his famous “Iron Curtain” speech. Presidents and vice presidents in both parties have spoken there over the years as well.

Curator Riley praises U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R) and U.S. Rep. Bob Onder (R-St. Charles County) for sponsoring the bill. Fulton is in Congressman Onder’s district. Mr. Riley also thanks Missouri’s entire congressional delegation and many other members of Congress in both parties for their support and respect for Winston Churchill:

“For having an admiration for what happened at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. They know the significance of the Iron Curtain speech and Churchill’s impact on the Western world,” he says.

Senator Hawley has been sponsoring the bipartisan bill since 2024.
