A mother from mid-Missouri’s Centralia whose five-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder praises what she describes as the community’s amazing response to this Saturday’s 5K and fun run in the Anchor City.
Lindy Henke tells 939 the Eagle that her daughter Marley is a happy young girl. Marley is one of approximately 1,000 people worldwide diagnosed with Fox P1:
“She’s severely impaired in speech so she is five years old, but you wouldn’t know to talk to her. She’s learning every day and doing wonderful,” she says.
Ms. Henke says ALL registration fees and proceeds on Saturday will be donated to the Fox P1 Foundation to promote ongoing research efforts. Lindy says her daughter is disabled and is two years behind in speech, despite trying hard each day:
“While it is a lifelong disability, I believe in advocating and raising awareness. And I’d be willing to bet nobody in Boone County had heard of Fox P1. So they’re going to hear about it now,” Ms. Henke says.
Saturday’s 5K and fun run will be on Centralia’s city square. Registration begins at 7:30 am with the 5K beginning at 8:30. The fun run is at 9. Ms. Henke says you can just show up. She also tells 939 the Eagle there will be vendors with bottled water, cupcakes and ice cream.
