(LISTEN): Columbia-based StorageMart started with one location and now has $10-billion in assets under management

Columbia-based StorageMart has grown in the past 27 years from one location on Rangeline to now being the world’s largest privately owned storage company.

StorageMart president Mike Burnam joined host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour Saturday on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable.” Mr. Burnam tells listeners that StorageMart collects rent from 300,000 people each month:

“We’re operating in the UK (United Kingdom), Canada and the United States. And we’re coast-to-coast in the U.S. and from Montreal to Vancouver in Canada,” he says.

Columbia-based StorageMart now has 380 locations worldwide, including eight in Columbia. Mr. Burnam tells listeners that the company now has more than 800 employees:

“We’ve got 150 here in Columbia. And every time I think about it I see people walking up and down the hall (at their Columbia headquarters at the Shoppes at Stadium). I have to introduce myself sometimes,” says Burnam.
