Columbia’s mayor encourages you to attend Saturday morning’s community summit at city hall, where you can explore interactive booths and learn details about current and future city initiatives. Mayor Barbara Buffaloe would like to see you:
“The community summit last year we had over 300 people come through the doors of city hall for that three hour period. And they gave feedback on everything from like what do want to see community policing look like to where do you want to fly from COU to,” Mayor Buffaloe says.

Mayor Buffaloe tells 939 the Eagle that those things influence where the city puts priorities and resources. You can arrive anytime Saturday between 9 and noon. Mayor Buffaloe discussed the summit at Wednesday’s REDI board meeting at Boone Electric.

Saturday morning’s community summit at Columbia city hall is an opportunity for you to provide feedback on major city services, potential improvements and other topics. This is the second community summit. Mayor Buffaloe tells 939 the Eagle that residents last year provided a lot of feedback on potential flight destinations from Columbia Regional Airport:
“I went to American (Airlines) last August and one of the things I was able to say was like look … Charlotte is one of our number one destinations that people want to fly to. So let’s work on this faster. And I’m not saying that’s why we got it, but we did get it,” the mayor says.
Direct daily flights from COU to Charlotte begin in June.
Saturday’s community summit is a free and family-friendly event. You’ll also have a chance to use the “CoMo Bucks” play money to vote for which area you think need additional funding.
