You can expect heavy traffic starting Friday evening and all weekend on westbound I-70 in Columbia.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says crews will be setting girders for the new “flyover” ramp that will connect northbound Highway 63 traffic to westbound I-70. Look for a full closure of both westbound lanes starting tonight. MoDOT’s Eric Kopinski says work will start after tonight’s 7 o’clock kickoff between Mizzou and Kansas, with traffic reduced to one lane:
“We will be shutting I-70 down at the (Highway 63) Connector, where anyone traveling westbound will have to exit and use the entrance ramp to get right back on,” he says.
Kopinski joined 939 the Eagle’s Mike Murphy live on the “Eagle Eye Drive at 5.” He says the work is needed so crews can safely place the large beams, which will support the driving surface of the new ramp.
The work will continue until Monday morning at 6.
