Missouri’s lieutenant governor agrees with UM System President Dr. Mun Choi’s call for an increased emphasis on public safety in downtown Columbia.
Lt. Governor Dave Wasinger was live on 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Missouri”, telling listeners that he’s had multiple discussions with President Choi about the crime issue:
“You know one bad incident with a Mizzou student downtown is going to make nationwide news. It’s going to affect you know enrollment, applications. Because parents are not going want to send their kids to a place in which they don’t feel safe,” Lt. Governor Wasinger says.
President Choi is calling on Columbia city leaders to take action on downtown safety, rather than forming task forces.
Lt. Governor Dave Wasinger tells “Wake Up Missouri” that he’s had several conversations about the issue with UM System President Choi. Wasinger tells listeners that his son just graduated from Mizzou:
“He stayed over downtown (Columbia) too. He would hear gunshots you know at 2 or three in the morning. You know you can’t have that in Columbia. When I went to Mizzou we didn’t have that issue,” he says.
