Jefferson City voters head to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots on a lodging tax extension.

Supporters say the money would be used to support tourism in Missouri’s Capital City. It would also be used to partly fund a conference center, which Mayor Ron Fitzwater says is needed:
“We don’t have a quality meeting facility in this town to address the needs of our community,” Mayor Fitzwater says.
Mayor Fitzwater tells 939 the Eagle’s “Wake Up Missouri” that there are more than 100 associations based in Jefferson City and that they and the state would benefit from a new conference center:
“I mean we talk to state government and they take meetings to the Lake and out-of-town. They would be excited to be able to do meetings here in town,” says Mayor Fitzwater.
Jefferson City has about 14,000 state employees, making state government the town’s largest employer. A simple majority is required for passage on Tuesday.
