It’s included in the $441-million plan to improve I-70 between Rocheport and Columbia. Improve I-70 director Eric Kopinski tells 939 the Eagle that the current bridge structure over I-70 at Midway is not in the best condition:

“We looked at a bunch of different alternatives for what’s going to move traffic the best and most efficiently. And we have our proposed solution, which is a dogbone, which is a roundabout on both sides and a new wide bridge through there. And so we’re excited on how this is going to work in the future,” Kopinski says.

Columbia-based Emery Sapp and Sons (ESS) has been selected as the design-build contractor for the project. ESS also plans new truck parking facilities at I-70 and Midway.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says the proposed dogbone interchange at I-70 and Midway just west of Columbia will improve traffic flow and be much better for trucks and tractor trailers. Mr. Kopinski spoke to 939 the Eagle at MoDOT’s recent open house at Midway Golf and Games:

“We have been quick to point out to those apprehensive about the roundabout or dogbone that this is designed for trucks. It’s going to be better. It’s going to be able to move traffic more efficiently. So we’re excited for it,” he says.
