The Salvation Army of Columbia’s red kettle kickoff is Saturday morning at 11 at Columbia Mall’s café court.

The Salvation Army’s annual Christmas parade against poverty will be Sunday November 23 at 3 in downtown Columbia. Salvation Army of Columbia spokesman Sean Spence tells 939 the Eagle that the red kettle campaign and the parade are opportunities to help those in need:
“It is a reminder that we have some neighbors right here in Columbia and Boone County who are in genuine need. And we all have an opportunity to help those neighbors,” Spence says.
The parade’s grand marshals this year are Zimmer’s Cosmo and Kat from sister station Y-107. Cosmo and Kat will also be at the mall tomorrow morning at 11 to speak at the red kettle kickoff event.

Final preparations are being made for the Salvation Army of Columbia’s popular Christmas parade against poverty. It will take place on Sunday the 23rd at 3 on downtown’s East Broadway from Hitt to Providence. Salvation Army Major Nancy Powers says the parade kicks off the Christmas season. She also tells 939 the Eagle that you’ll notice something new at this year’s parade:
“This year we are adding the last two blocks of the parade will be a special area where folks that have a problem with the loud noises and they really need a quiet space will be able to enjoy the parade,” Major Powers says.
