Missouri legislators weigh in on Muslim law

By John Marsh

Missouri lawmakers want no part of a legal system spawned by radical Islam. A measure moving through the Capitol would ban Sharia (Shah-ree-uh) Law and stop courts from enforcing any outside laws deemed unconstitutional. Lawmakers point to European countries with large immigrant populations with allowing Sharia Law to supersede their own legal systems.

The legislation’s sponsors say they aren’t just targeting Muslim law but any foreign legal system. Sharia law includes penalties like stoning homosexuals to death and chopping off the limbs of thieves. It’s sponsored by Reps. Steve Jordan and Chad Perkins.
