State Rep. Kent Haden (R-Mexico) has filed House Bill 2297, which would real property owners building a fence to enter an adjoining property up to ten feet without liability for trespassing. The Columbia-based Missouri Cattlemen’s Association also backs the bill, which would not apply to adjoining property owned by railroads or animal sanctuaries. Bill opponents say it would represent a significant shift in Missouri property law.

Representative Haden serves on the Missouri House Agriculture Committee, which is scheduled to vote on his bill Tuesday morning.
