Wednesday is Missouri’s ninth annual buckle up phone down day, and state transportation officials are warning that traffic fatalities in Missouri are trending closer to passing last year’s total.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says that in 2025, more than 700 motorists have died on Missouri roadways. MoDOT says more than half of those victims were unbuckled.
They also say distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes in Missouri. They are urging you to slow down, put your phone down and to pay attention.
