Thursday is President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, a Missouri state and county holiday.
Most state employees have the day off and county courthouses in all of Missouri’s 114 counties are closed as well.
President Lincoln led the United States during the Civil War and issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 that declared forever free those slaves within the Confederacy. President Lincoln was assassinated in 1865.
