Cole County’s prosecutor says a grand jury has declined to indict the shooter involved in November’s deadly shooting in a parking lot behind Chili’s on Jefferson City’s Missouri Boulevard.
Cole County prosecutor Locke Thompson says the investigation into Erik Spencer’s death is now considered closed, saying the Cole County grand jury found that the shooter’s actions were in lawful defense of another. Prosecutor Thompson says the grand jury declined to seek charges of voluntary and involuntary manslaughter, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
Prosecutor Thompson also says Jefferson City Police will hold a press conference this (Friday) morning about the case.
The November 1 incident happened during what JCPD describes as a disturbance. Jefferson City Police have said that Spencer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Missouri NAACP president Rod Chapel had called on Prosecutor Thompson to file charges in this case.
