Jefferson City Police and the Cole County prosecutor’s office continue to investigate last weekend’s deadly shooting in a parking lot behind the Chili’s on Missouri Boulevard. The incident happened last Saturday evening during what JCPD describes as a disturbance. Police say Erik Spencer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cole County prosecutor Locke Thompson tells 939 the Eagle that his office is working closely with JCPD investigators, “who are working diligently to complete a thorough investigation into the shooting. Because the investigation remains ongoing, the Cole County prosecutor’s office will have no further comment at this time.”

Jefferson City Police say the individual who discharged the firearm has been identified and is cooperating with investigators. Police say the person’s name won’t be released unless the prosecutor’s office files charges.

The Missouri NAACP president is calling on Cole County’s prosecutor to file charges in connection with Spencer’s death. NAACP President Rod Chapel spoke to reporters this week outside the county courthouse, where he was joined by Spencer’s family. Mr. Chapel also called on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
