Closing arguments are underway on this Thursday morning at the Boone County Courthouse in a high-profile Jefferson City murder and stalking case.
Cole County prosecutors have charged 39-year-old Sergio Sayles with first degree murder and two other felonies for the gruesome April 2023 stabbing death of Jasmine King, the mother of a toddler they shared together. The bench trial is being held at the Boone County Courthouse, and the Missouri Supreme Court assigned Boone County Judge Brouck Jacobs to this case.
Cole County prosecutor Locke Thompson has said King was a witness in the state’s prosecution of Sayles as a stalking suspect and that she was killed due to her status as a witness. Court documents say the victim was stabbed in the head, face, neck, chest, torso and back. Judge Jacobs could issue a verdict today.
