The Missouri Supreme Court has ordered Secretary of State Denny Hoskins (R) to appear before them in-person Thursday morning in Jefferson City on why he should not be held in contempt.
The Missouri Supreme Court has scheduled an oral argument for 10 am. The Missouri Supreme Court says it wants to know from Hoskins why he shouldn’t be held in contempt for violating the court’s injunction issued Thursday and how the Missouri Supreme Court’s injunction is still not in full force. Secretary Hoskins will be in the courtroom this morning.
Meantime, it’s still unclear which Missouri congressional map will be on the November ballot. Federal judge Stephen Clark has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) for two weeks that essentially requires Secretary Hoskins to use the congressional map approved by the GOP-controlled Legislature in September 2025. The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals has declined to stay Judge Clark’s ruling.
The Missouri Supreme Court issued a 7-0 decision on Thursday that reversed a Cole County judge’s ruling that the state Constitution’s referendum power does not apply to the Legislature’s congressional redistricting. The Missouri Supreme Court on Thursday ordered that Secretary Hoskins use 2022 congressional district map.
