A Jefferson City man is now charged with first degree murder and two other felonies for Monday afternoon’s stabbing death of his wife at their home on East McCarty.
Cole County prosecutors have also charged 46-year-old Malang Jan Akbari with endangering the welfare of a child and armed criminal action. Akbari also allegedly fled with two of the couple’s children after the murder, prompting a statewide Amber Alert.
The Jefferson City Police Department’s three-page probable cause statement quotes the suspect as saying that he stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife during an argument, before placing a pillow under her head while she bled out. Malang Jan Akbari is quoted as telling police that he believed there was infidelity within the marriage and also accused his wife of tampering with his food. The court documents also quote the suspect as telling police that he loved his wife and made a mistake and that he regrets this.
Cole County prosecutor Locke Thompson says the suspect was captured Monday afternoon in Pettis County.
